What is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is one of the oldest healing practices, dating back thousands of years. It involves the manipulation of the body’s tissues—muscles, joints, tendons, and more—to promote healing and relieve pain. Recognized as a therapeutic method worldwide, massage therapy helps improve overall health by enhancing the body’s natural recovery processes and reducing physical discomfort.
How it Works
Massage therapy is focused on assessing and treating soft tissue and joint dysfunction through hands-on techniques. By improving blood circulation, oxygen exchange, and reducing stress, massage therapy can alleviate a lot of different conditions like headaches, muscle pain, work-related injuries, and chronic discomfort. It also supports emotional well-being by reducing physical and emotional stress. Massage can be combined with other holistic treatments like Reflexology, Polarity Therapy, and Cupping for greater results.
What to Expect During a Session
During a massage therapy session, clients remain laying down on the table comfortably covered, with only the areas being treated exposed. Sessions typically last between 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the client’s needs and treatment plan. Before first session, clients complete a health history form, followed by an interview and assessment with the therapist to customize the treatment. Afterwards, home care exercises may be recommended to maintain the benefits. Massage therapy is often covered by private insurance, and receipts for reimbursement are provided.
