What is Indian Head Massage?
Indian Head Massage, also known as Champissage, is rooted in the ancient Indian medical system of Ayurveda, which means “science of life.” This technique, practiced for over 2,000 years, is designed to balance the body’s energies and awaken its natural self-healing abilities. The massage focuses on stimulating acupressure points along the head, neck, shoulders, and face to promote overall well-being and harmony within the body.
The treatment usually lasts up to 45 minutes and can include the use of aroma and essential oils, although in the Western world it is often performed without oils. Common oils used in this practice are coconut and almond oils, which add nourishment to the skin and hair.
The session typically begins by treating the upper back, shoulders, and neck to relieve tension in those areas. The scalp is then massaged with a sequence of specific techniques designed to stimulate acupressure points. The final part of the treatment focuses on the face, targeting the forehead, cheeks, chin, and areas around the eyes.
Benefits of Indian Head Massage
This therapy is beneficial for anyone, as it promotes a sense of well-being and relaxation. It is particularly effective for stimulating hair growth by increasing oxygen flow to the hair follicles, which boosts their health. Indian Head Massage can also help prevent or reduce headaches and migraines by relieving tension in the head and neck areas. Additional benefits include reducing stress, anxiety, insomnia, and depression, quieting the mind, improving the circulation of cerebral spinal fluid, and decreasing muscle tension in the neck, shoulders, upper back, and chest.
Indian Head Massage can be seamlessly combined with other treatments such as massage therapy, foot reflexology, and polarity therapy for enhanced results.
